Tips on Hanging Pictures as Wall Décor

Artwork makes any bare wall interesting, and adds a decorative flair to the room. One of the oldest and commonest forms of wall décor is pictures. It is a traditional piece that has adorned walls for centuries. It is the colors, shape, type of photo, and arrangement of frames that add a personal touch to an area, in addition to making it look attractive.

Even though picture wall décor allows for creativity and individuality, in that you can put up any picture you desire and in any order or arrangement, the task of hanging pictures requires much precision than one might suppose. Here are some points on how to hang your cherished or favorite photos, the right way.

If you have a single photo to hang, consider the size of the wall, a small picture would not suit an expansive wall, just as a large picture will look awkward on a small wall.  A group of pictures can be assembled in a straight line in order to give a widening effect, a horizontal line will give heightening effect, and a diagonal arrangement will simply give an interesting look.

Other than these basic patterns, pictures can be grouped together to seem like one artwork entity. The idea is to use a number of pictures as one wall décor. The options are to arrange the frames in such a way that once grouped and hung, they make a collective shape such a rectangle or even a diamond.

Before you begin putting up the pictures, do a test arrangement first. Play around with the patterns until you find an appealing outline of your artwork. Once you have decided on the arrangement, trace the frames on paper and tape them to the wall in the same pattern that pleased you. Use these cutouts as a template to reproduce and perfect the display.

When using pictures as wall décor, it is imperative to match the size of the picture to that of the wall and furniture, if any. Large frames or a group of them look best on a big dimensional wall, whereas smaller frames suit narrow walls best.

In relation to furniture, there are general rules that need to be applied. These specify that the base of the frame should not be too much higher than the top of the furniture, at least 8 inches and no more. The height depends on the tallness of the furniture, whereas length of the framework should not be more than about 80 percent that of the furniture’s span.

There you have it, tips to make wall décor with pictures easy, so get out your favorite photographs and start decorating.
